Ride with
the Hunt

Follow hounds across open fields and countryside. There is nothing quite like it — and there is a place in the field for you.

Riding with the Wellington-Waterloo Hunt is a privilege and a joy. Whether you are an experienced foxhunter or discovering the sport for the first time, you will find a warm welcome, a place in the field suited to you, and a community that will stay with you for life.

Exclusively a Drag Hunt —
60 Years and Counting

The Wellington-Waterloo Hunt is exclusively a drag hunt. Our hounds follow a laid scent across beautiful Wellington County farmland — giving riders the full thrill of the chase across open country, fences, and fields, without the unpredictability of live quarry.

It is a sport that is accessible, exhilarating, and deeply rooted in tradition. For over sixty years we have been doing this — and we are just as passionate about it today as ever.

All riding disciplines are welcome. Western riders ride with us too. What matters is your love of horses, hounds, and the countryside.

A Place for Every Rider

Riding in the field is a privilege — and it is structured so that every rider finds their comfort level from their very first day.

1

First Field

For experienced Hunt riders. Faster pace, jumping country, following hounds closely. The heart of the action.

2

Second Field

A confident pace through the countryside. Some jumping, more time to take it all in. Ideal for capable riders building Hunt experience.

3

Third Field

A relaxed and welcoming pace. Gates rather than jumps. Perfect for newer riders, young horses, or anyone who simply wants to enjoy the day.

Two Seasons. A Full Year of Riding.

Spring Season

April — Last Day of May

Spring hunting is a quieter, more intimate season — mounted exercises and cubbing in Ratcatcher attire. A wonderful time to introduce a young horse to hounds, or for a new rider to find their feet in the field before the autumn.

Autumn Season

September — November 30th

The main season. Hounds in full cry, fields in autumn colour, the pace and energy of Hunt days at their finest. From the Opening Hunt through to the close of November, this is the Wellington-Waterloo Hunt at its very best.

Come and Cap with Us

Not ready to join? Capping is open to all. Guests — members of the public, friends of members, and our own Supporting Members — are welcome to ride with us for a cap fee on any Hunt day.

It is the perfect way to experience a day in the field before deciding to join. Western riders are very welcome. Ride in the style you are comfortable with — what matters is that you enjoy the day.

To arrange capping, simply get in touch with the Masters before Hunt day. We will take care of the rest.

The Breakfast Belongs to Everyone

The Wellington-Waterloo Hunt is known for its warmth — and nowhere is that more evident than at the Hunt breakfast. Plentiful, generous, and genuinely social, the breakfast after a Hunt day is where friendships are made and memories are built.

This is a close-knit community. You will know people by name — riders, houndsmen, road whips, Masters. You will be known too. That personal connection is something you simply cannot find anywhere else.

Horse, hounds, and riders — brought together by a shared love of the land and each other.
